REVIEW: Trigger (Devil’s Reach, #1) by J.L. Drake

Too strong to run, too proud to hide. For this I’ll pay–for this I’ll die.

I was raised by the Devil himself.

Formed into a man who was unreachable.

I went from the boy with bruises to the man with a trigger.

Killing is the only thing that calms the itch.

The demons inside were a constant battle…

…until she changed everything.

Problem is when you spend most of your time in the dark, is it smart to step into the light?

My Thoughts:

JL Drake has done it again. She made me fall in love with a whole new set of characters in her new series, Devil’s Reach. I have read all of her books and I have loved each one, but this one had a little something new that I haven’t seen from her before.

The Broken Trilogy (and the Blackstone spin-off series) as well as the Darkness trilogy is full of honorable men who would do anything for their country and the women that they love. It’s about men who are on the right side of the law (most of the time), but you still get the gritty stories of each character’s past.

Trigger, the first book in Devil’s Reach, was a whole new ballgame. It was still full of honorable men, but these men would commit any and all crimes to get what they want. It is darker and grittier and full of darkness from both main characters and side characters that just pulls you into the story. I am in love with Trigger and the rest of the men in this badass MC club. I am also in love with our sarcastic, take no shit heroine named Tess who stands up to Trigger in ways no one else would dare. There were flashbacks into each of the main character’s past, mostly Trigger’s, and it was heartbreaking and made me understand Trigger in a whole new way. I am hoping we get Tess’s backstory a little more flushed out in the next book. We got glimpses into her past, but it’s all still shrouded in mystery that I can not wait to unravel.

If you are familiar with this author, then you know she likes to link her books together in some way and maybe have some cameo appearances from character’s in her other books. That does not change. I absolutely loved who she brought in and the conversation they had with Tess regarding a certain couple that I can’t get enough of.

Overall, this was an amazing story and world that JL Drake has given to us and I neeeeeed the next book more than ANYTHING! It did end on a small cliffhanger (another thing this author is known for) and I just want to know what happens next! I would recommend you read her other books first, but this can be read as a standalone.

Overall Rating: ★★★★★/★★★★★
Next Book in the Series: TBA
