Once, I was nothing.
Hungry, abandoned, wandering, and alone. An adolescent street rat fighting for crumbs.
Then a chance encounter changed my entire world.
A man in an expensive suit asked me how much my life was worth.
I didn’t have an answer, because I didn’t know.
He asked if I thought it was worth killing for.
Impulsively, I said yes…
He found me, then fostered me, and in the interim turned me into a killing machine. A modern day La Femme Nikita.
Now, I only have one mission. To avenge the death of the man who saved me.
There’s an invisible war on the streets. Us against them. Family against family. Power against power.
They call me Ghostface Killer because they never see me coming.
I understand the weight of that danger.
Because now here I stand, three months pregnant with the barrel of a gun pressed to my head cause I never saw him coming…
GFK is a romantic suspense with dark elements. Reader discretion is advised.
I received an ARC of Ghostface Killer from Give Me Books Blog in order to share the love of this book! I thoroughly enjoyed this mafia book about a kickass assassin and her mysterious mark. It was HOT HOT HOT!
From the moment I started this book until the moment I finished it, I was on the edge of my seat just waiting to figure out what was going to happen next. It was fast paced and well written and I loved everything about it. It was gritty and raw, which I love in dark romantic suspense.
Born into nothing, ignored, neglected, harassed, raped, beaten, and then turned into a killer.
Stevie. My heart broke for her from the first page because she was just a young girl trying to survive a shit hand that was given to her. Her resilience and her feistiness was incredible to watch because it felt like it was her against the world. After a horrific night when she is 14, Stevie ends up in a jail cell where she gets a visitor. This visitor asks one simple question, “How much is your life worth? Is it worth enough to kill for?” Stevie doesn’t hesitate to answer yes and then begins a new life as Ghostface Killer. Chapter 1 opens up to a scene 10 years later where Stevie is enacting revenge against those who killed Benny, the man who raised her ever since that fateful night in a jail cell. She is now working under Benny’s sister, Regina, who is trying to win a war against her other brother, Gianni, to become the head of the family since her grandfather’s passing. Regina sends Stevie to kill a man named Benjamin Sabatino, but what Stevie doesn’t know is that her world is about to be turned upside down.
Benjamin, Baz, is unlike any man that Stevie has ever come across. She feels real for the first time in her life and she has no idea how to go through with what she was sent to do. She finds herself blurring the lines with Baz because she feels such an incredible connection with him. She struggles with what she is hiding from him and the guilt weighs her down. Before she can tell him the truth, her world implodes when he finds out first and tries to turn the tables on her. She flees and doesn’t look back. 3 months later she finds herself pregnant with his baby and face to face with a man who looks like her Baz, but is a completely different man. She and Baz go through hell, but find their way back to each other. They revel in their honeymoon stage before their bubble is again burst, and they are forced to seek refuge in Gianni’s home. Here, more secrets are revealed and Stevie finds out just who Benny really was. She finds out just how far she is willing to go to save her little family and find her way out of living her life as Ghostface Killer.
But that’s Baz. Thoughtful, sweet, protective, intense. He has so many layers. And I love every single one of them.
Baz. I FREAKING LOVE THIS MAN! Baz is the epitome of an alpha male and I absolutely love him. He has these little boyish moments that slip out every now and then and it is perfect. Baz grew up being rejected by his father because he was different due to his battles with ADHD and depression. All Baz wanted was to be loved, much like Stevie. Baz has his own vulnerabilities and insecurities that come out when Stevie is around, and it truly broke my heart. I felt like Baz had the perfect balance of alpha male and sweet, boy-next-door. Baz is heartbroken when he discovers what Stevie was sent to do, and ends up going off the mental deep end. I hardly recognized him when he came back into Stevie’s life 3 months after she fled from him. However, even in his darkest moments, he would never do anything to hurt Stevie, especially now that she is carrying his child. A child he vows to love unconditionally no matter what. Baz has his own secrets that he keeps from Stevie that he doesn’t reveal until the moment those secrets become a threat to Stevie and his child. Baz finds the confidence to do things he never was willing to do before he met Stevie. And no one, not even his own father, is going to hurt Stevie or his child.
I’m your kill, Stevie, and you are my quiet.
The Relationship. I loved Stevie and Baz’s relationship. Neither one of them was perfect, but they found a way to fight for each other. The steamy scenes were just….fucking hot and I will never look at PB&J sandwiches the same way again. There were a few times when I was ready for them to move things out of the bedroom because I felt like that was all they were doing, but it was still unbelievably hot. Stevie and Baz were so accepting of each other’s flaws and were fiercely protective of each other. I loved that Baz did not try and smother Stevie because he knew that she could handle herself. However, he also was not about to let her walk into any situation without him as backup. I hated that their big moment was obscured by a dark secret coming out, but the make-up scene between them made it worth it in so many ways. The way they doted on their little one was beautiful, especially Baz. They would do anything for that child, including putting themselves in danger to keep them safe. The epilogue was everything that I wanted. I am a sucker for epilogues so I get super excited when there’s an epilogue.
I would highly recommend this book to those who like: dark romantic suspense, mafia romance, assassins, fiesty, pregnant heroines, and alpha, yet vulnerable heroes.
