I’m not a one-night stand kind of woman. I’m especially not the woman who has a few drinks at a concert and ends up in bed with my childhood celebrity crush, Eli Walsh.
However, that’s exactly where I find myself.
What’s a girl to do after a drunken mistake? Run. I grab my clothes and get away from the powerful, irresistible, and best-sex-of-my-life superstar as fast as I can. His gorgeous green eyes, rock-hard body, and cocky smile have no place in my world. My life is complicated enough.
Someone forgot to tell him that.
Eli is relentless. Pushing his way into my heart, wearing me down, proving he’s nothing like I assumed, and everything I need. But when my world shatters to pieces, he holds the broken bits together. Unwillingly, I fall desperately in love with him.
He made me think we’d have forever . . . I should’ve listened when he said we could only own tonight.
Let me start this off by saying how much I LOVE Corinne Michaels. Her Salvation series and her Return to Me series are a couple of my favorites. Corinne’s writing and her stories just fill me up with so much hope for my own happy ending. That being said, We Own Tonight was not my favorite. I liked it but I didn’t love it, and it KILLS me to say that because I had such high hopes for this book.
The Story. For every girl who has ever had a massive crush on a celebrity boy band member, this is the book to give you hope that one day you will meet and fall in love with said crush. I loved how Eli and Heather met and how their story progressed. I felt it was well written and had a pretty good pace to it. There were some fantastic side characters to help fill out the story. I got a little frustrated with some of the repetitive conversations and thoughts, but other than that I really loved the flow of the story.
Heather. Heather is a 38 year old female police officer who is dealing with a lot of emotional baggage pertaining to both past and present events. Heather is trying to keep her head above water while trying to care for one of the most important people in her life. Her friends force her out to attend a concert for their favorite boy band that they have been crushing on since they were in their teen years. Heather’s best friend, Nicole, is determined to make her let loose and live a little, and Heather decides to do just that. She locks eyes with her favorite boy band member, Eli, and then finds herself owning the night in the bedroom of their tour bus. However, Heather doesn’t do wild very well and ends up running away from Eli to hopefully never see him again. She just doesn’t bank on Eli chasing her down. Around every corner, Heather finds Eli trying to insinuate himself into her life. Heather has so many insecurities that she has to learn to let go of before she can finally let Eli in. She also has responsibilities that she won’t compromise for Eli, and tries to make him leave her because of them before she falls too deeply. I was so heartbroken for Heather and what she was dealing with, and that so many people in her life left her for one reason or another.
I did have a hard time connecting with her because I couldn’t find anything to relate to. I’m not sure if it was the age or what, but I really struggled to connect with her. I was also a little annoyed when she kept judging Eli before she even got to know him. I know everyone has preconceived notions about people, but I felt like she just kept doing it and having the same insecure thoughts over and over.
Eli. Eli is a 42 year old famous boy band member/actor who is hiding his own secrets. Eli has never met anyone like Heather and he is determined to get to know her. I loved how sweet he was with her and how he just talked her through all of the insecurities she was dealing with. I melted when he gave Heather that perfect day at the amusement park. You will know exactly which day I am referring to if you have read it or plan to read it. Eli went out of his way constantly to show Heather how much he loved her and he was so genuine. He stuck by Heather during her darkest moments, and that is honestly one of the biggest things you can ask for in a partner. Someone to just be there and Eli was definitely that for Heather. I loved watching Eli with his family and how he included Heather’s in his life as well. I was so sad to read about the demons he was fighting, but I know it truly made the both of them stronger.
The Relationship. I thought Eli and Heather were fantastic together! I thought they leaned on each other and were each other’s best friends. They definitely had their hurdles but they got through them together stronger than ever. Their ending was beyond perfect and I can’t wait for that exclusive extra bonus chapter that Corinne has promised us!
I would highly recommend this to story to those who like: boy bands, heartwarming stories, female police officers, and one sweet hero.
