Title: We Were Memories
Author: Brandi Aga
Release Date: October 10, 2017
Someone once told me never leave the one you love for the one you like…
…you just might get something more out of that relationship than you bargained for.
I should have listened…
I never should have stepped foot on that airplane…
But I did.
Sins come in all shapes and sizes. My biggest sin to date comes in the form of sex, tattoos, and Harleys. Roman Blackhart, owner of Blackhart Custom Motorcycles, is all about living life in the fast lane. Our relationship went from zero to one hundred in the blink of an eye. Only problem is, I have a secret. A secret so deep it’s pulling me in two different directions.
Now we’re 1,400 miles of memories and broken hearts. I just hope it’s not too late to put all the pieces back together again.
Ok, so I’m going to preface this with saying that if you don’t like books with love triangles and cheating, this is not the book for you. Personally, I wish that it would have mentioned these somewhere in the description since both these scenarios, especially cheating, are hard limits for me.
Leylah has been married to Ryan for ten years. The last two years have been rough, and Leylah finds herself feeling more and more abandoned by her husband. As a joke, Erin, Leylah’s best friend, puts a dating app on Leylah’s phone. Through this app, Leylah meets Roman, a biker from Newport Beach, CA. Roman and Leylah’s affair grows, to the point where she leaves Ryan for Roman. Roman however, has his own demons he is struggling with.
Leylah soon finds herself pregnant and alone, abandoned by Roman and reeling from her choices.
For me, this book was a tough sell. I didn’t like how lightly Leylah seemed to take her marriage vows, and to me, it felt like she didn’t push enough to fix things with Ryan. As someone who will be married 12 years, it seemed ludicrous to me the way she went about the entire thing. Also, I didn’t feel like Roman’s story was flushed out enough. There are still some things about his character I’m completely confused about and I don’t understand how they fit into the big picture.
The writing for We Were Memories was solid, especially for a debut novel and it flowed well. I think Brandi Aga has a bright future ahead of her in the romance writing world!
