Dawn has come, a time for heroes to rise.
Draco has lived long and felt the pain of loss more than anyone in one lifetime could imagine. Immortality was given to him as a gift, a gift that failed him and turned him into a shell of the man that has nothing left but to wait out the end of existence alone.
Rose is an empath who sees more than who Draco is supposed to be: she sees him, and what they could be.
Together, they will begin the search for others with extraordinary powers, to stop a war that’s been brewing for over a millennia.
The journey is only beginning, and an unnamed enemy has started to make his mark on their world.
The dawn of heroes has finally arrived.
Only time will tell if it’s too late to defeat the upcoming darkness of night that now descends upon all of mankind
Dawn (Hero Society, #1), was the first book that I have read from Jessica Florence, and I am so happy she generously sent me a copy of the book to review. I was so intrigued by the synopsis and I am a HUGE superhero fan, but, as I started reading, it was both a superhero book AND a book with Greek mythology. I am a sucker for Greek mythology! Needless to say, I devoured this book in mere hours.
The Story. I felt the book was well written and had a fantastic pace to it. I was immediately pulled into the story and became attached to all the wonderful characters. I didn’t want this book to end! I kept cursing at the percentage in the bottom corner of my kindle letting me know how close I was getting to the end. This first book really was just a base for what is to come, and I am hoping it gets fleshed out even more in the next book. Another thing I loved about this book were the side characters, Phillip and AJ. I personally love books with lots of strong side characters as well because they bring so much more to the story.
Draco. Draco is an immortal man who has withdrawn from the world to live in peace in his cabin in the woods, but finds himself pulled in again to save the world. Draco is tired of outliving everyone he has ever loved and it determined to keep everyone at a distance. However, that plan is thwarted when he finds a mysterious girl sleeping in his chicken coop. His curiosity for this girl is a mystery to him and he can’t help but at least ask for her story before she leaves. He recognizes she is gifted and just wants to talk to her for a moment, but she has other plans for him. She seems to get under his skin like no one has been able to since he shut out the world. She appeals to his inner warrior who is fighting to break out again to help those he was always meant to save, and his inner warrior eventually wins out. Draco is now tasked with training his new family to prepare them for what is to come while fighting his growing desire for Rose.
Rose. Rose grew up a normal girl until her 16th birthday where she developed the ability to feel others emotions, aka an empath. When she meets Draco, she immediately knows he is more than he says he is and soon finds out just how special he is. With the help of her seer brother, Phillip, she convinces Draco to fight for their cause because all is lost without him. However, she has this instant connection with him that she can’t shake, and finds herself determined to uncover just who he is underneath all his indifference. Rose has never let anyone as close to her as she lets Draco get. She is trying to find the strength to endure this new world she has found herself in by training both physically and emotionally.
The Relationship. There is a lot of romance in this book that balances well with the paranormal/fantasy aspect of it. Things progress pretty quickly in the romance department, however. It in no way bothers me because I always love lots of romance in my books. When you pair someone who lives forever and has experienced a lot with someone who experiences a lot emotionally, you are bound to get a faster paced romance. The steamy scenes were as perfect as all the sexual tension that this book and to offer. Draco and Rose were pure magic together and I can’t wait to see what is next for them.
I highly recommend this story to those who love: superheroes, strong romance, adventure, team missions, Greek mythology, battles, strong heroines, and alpha heroes.
