Darkest Temptation, an all-new standalone in The Dark Ones Saga from New York Times Bestseller Rachel Van Dyken is LIVE!
Darkest Temptation by Rachel Van Dyken
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Publishing Date: October 31st, 2017
I’m a werewolf King who chose to step down out of grief for my mate.
For centuries I’ve been alone, choosing to live a life of modesty despite the wealth surrounding me.
I deserve to be punished.
I crave things I have no business craving.
And it is manifesting itself in a way I’m terrified I won’t be able to control any longer.
Especially since she arrived.
Vampire. Orphan. Beaten beyond recognition.
My blood calls to her in a way that makes no sense.
I’m a wolf.
She’s a vampire.
The two don’t mate.
They barely tolerate one another.
All it takes is one slip of control on my part — one taste.
And I doom us all.
Then again, I never knew what is lurking inside has the power to balance good and evil.
This is the first book that I have read from The Dark Ones Saga even though it is book 4. It is technically a standalone, but I felt I was missing the back story with the other characters. This was definitely an entertaining read, but that was really all it was for me. I didn’t have this burning desire to read the other books in the series.
The book was well written and I enjoyed all of the characters, both the main characters and the side characters. It was a very fast read so I recommend it if you are looking for a short story to read. I just wish there was a little more to the story than what it was. It centered on the main characters’ relationship and how they needed to stop fighting being together in order to become who they were truly meant to be.
Mason and Serenity were great characters, but I felt that I missed out on getting to know them both independently and as a couple. Since this book was fast paced and was set over a very short period of time, we didn’t really get to stop and smell the roses with this couple. I really wanted to fall in love with these characters, but it just missed the mark for me. Maybe if I had read the first 3 books first, then I might have loved it more than I did.
I recommend this book for those who love: paranormal romance, mates, werewolves, vampires, and tight circles of friends.
