Eden: Josh Evans and I have been best friends forever. He knows all my secrets, and I know all of his. So when he randomly asks me to help him lose his virginity, I sort of flip out. That’s a question that sends your mind to places you’ve seriously never considered before. Like, you know. Having sex. With your best friend. Except Josh doesn’t want to have sex with me—he wants me to help him find a girl. A nice girl who’s funny and smart and cute. Except he already knows a girl just like that…

Josh: Eden Sumner is my best friend. So of course she’d be the person to help me find my perfect match, so I can drop my V card before I head off to college. Except the more we search, the more I realize that maybe the right girl has been by my side all along. I don’t need Eden’s help in finding me a girl to love. I’m pretty sure I’m already in love with Eden. But now she thinks I’m only after one thing…with anyone but her.

My Thoughts:

I haven’t read anything by Monica Murphy in a long time so I was so excited to read Saving It. This is, however, the first young adult book that I have read from her. It was a very sweet, fun read that I read pretty quickly. This is a best friends to lovers romance that transitions into that lovers category in the most unconventional, but hilarious way.

The story begins with Josh asking his best friend, Eden, to help him find a girl to lose his virginity to before he goes off to college. Eden is taken aback by this favor because she figured he had traded in his v-card already. She and Josh share EVERYTHING, but even this is a new level to their friendship. Eden reluctantly agrees to help him and so this tumultuous journey begins.

The more and more Josh and Eden continue talking about sex and virginity, the more they begin thinking about what it would be like with each other. This book is written from both Josh and Eden’s perspectives, which I really liked because you got to get inside both of their heads to see what they were thinking. They were each struggling with these new feelings, but hesitant to act on them in order to save their friendship. Eventually it starts to cause problems between them and they have to decide if it’s worth the risk.

I loved these two! They were perfect for each other and everyone was just waiting for them to figure it out. It was romantic, if not a tad cheesy, but I love cheese so it works for me. I love best friends to lovers romances because they just know each other so well. The big things as well as the small things, which is beautiful. I would love more from this couple to find out where they end up.

I recommend this story to those who love: teenage angst, high school settings, best friends to lovers romance, and quick reads.

Overall Rating: ★★★★/★★★★★
