It should come us no shocker to anyone that my TBR is overflowing and has threatened to topple over and kill me more than once. As I was looking it over, preparing my 2018 reading goals, I realized that some of the books have been there forever. Mainly because they’re chunky books, and they intimidate the heck out of me. I’ve always focused on reading a specific number of books every year, and I skip these ones over and over again because they’ll take up more of my reading time. My goal in 2018 is to correct this!
In no particular order, here are the ten books that I am determined to read in 2018.
I’ve had Outlander on my TBR long before it was ever even a television show. I originally bought it in mass market paperback but upgraded it to a trade size early last year. Because it looked good on my shelf to be completely honest lol. But Charli is a huge fan of these books, and she made me promise that 2018 would be the year I read this one!
Gone With the wind has been on my shelf even longer than Outlander. It’s a massive read and comes in around 1000 pages. I recently rewatched the movie, and I’m really excited to see how even more involved the story is in the actual book. Plus, my mom has this great coffee table book all about the making of the movie and I want to read it after I finish the movie!
Earlier in the year, The Bronze Horseman was all over bookstagram. This is another one that’s been on my shelf for a very, very long time. I’ve heard such fantastic things about this one and I’m excited to finally start reading this one. I need to by the new edition though, because mine is this ridiculous looking mass market paperback copy that weighs about the same amount as a brick!
I can’t believe I’m even admitting that I haven’t read The Book Thief yet. I bought this one when it was released and I was so excited to read it. And I think I might have even started it. But it was so long ago I can’t remember anything about it. I’m really excited to add this one to my completed pile in 2018.
I love these movies. I love high fantasy. It’s an abomination to call myself a fantasy reader and not to have read anything by JRR Tolkien.
These are the other five books that have been sitting on my shelves for well over 2 or 3 years. I’ve heard amazing things about all of them and I’m especially excited to read The Pillars of the Earth and The Tea Rose.
Make sure to check back throughout 2018 to see how I’m doing!
