REVIEW: Unrest by Wendy Higgins

Title: Unrest
Author: Wendy Higgins
Genre: New Adult/Dystopian
Series: Unknown Trilogy
Publication Date: February 9, 2017

Being on the run in the desert means food and sanctuary are hard to come by, but Amber Tate and her crew are not about to give up. Not after having so many of the things they love brutally ripped from them by an unknown enemy who sent their world into the apocalypse.

Survival takes precedence, but once safe shelter is found, their guards fall and the emotions they’ve been holding in are finally released. Anger, insecurities…lust. In their tight quarters, Amber, Rylen, Tater, and Remy can’t escape it. The past must be faced, and passions run even stronger in the darkest of times.

In the midst of unrest, their worlds are rocked again when they discover the truth about the war that’s ruined their lives. They thought finding out the enemy’s identity would give them the edge; instead it’s revealed terrifying dangers they never thought possible.

These books!  They just keep getting better and better!  Unrest is the second book in the trilogy and some big secrets are revealed.  We learn just who the enemy is and it’s a doozy.  Amber and her group of friends head forward on their journey to find other rebel bands like them.  The journey is incredibly hard, and just when the group feels it can go no further, they finally reach the Army base.

There were a few things about this book that I just absolutely loved. One, the camaraderie among the group of friends, especially Amber and Remy.  They all became so close, and watched out for each other.  The group of soldiers they met in Unknown fit right in with Tater and Rylen.

Speaking of Rylen, we finally saw some movement with his romance with Amber and it was so worth the wait!  These two together are so amazing. Their love is incredibly strong and I can’t wait to see it grow in Undone.  And I’m really hoping that they’ll be able to overcome all of the trials they are sure to face.

Finally, Wendy Higgins writing is just so strong.  Her pacing and character development are spot on and made the book flow incredibly well. I was able to read it in less than 24 hours because I simply could not put it down.  She knows just when to ratchet up the tension and she’s amazing with her foreshadowing.  I am so incredibly excited to read Undone!
