*Each Bishop Brothers novel is an interconnected standalone*
Alex Bishop is your typical cowboy.
Charming, sexy, and wears a panty-melting smirk.
Working on the ranch helped build his solid eight-pack and smoking body. He’s every girl’s wet fantasy and he knows it too. Alex doesn’t follow the rules of your typical playboy bachelor. After wining and dining his dates and giving them the best night of their lives, he always sends flowers and calls the next day—even if it’s to say, let’s just be friends. His mama taught him manners after all and his southern blood knows how to be a gentleman. Still, that isn’t enough to tame the wildest of the Bishop brothers.
River Lancaster has finally met the man of her dreams. Too bad after six months of romantic bliss, she finds out he’s married. With a broken heart and blind rage, she books herself a ticket to Key West, Florida. Tired of cheaters and liars, she’s set on escaping to forget he ever existed. Who needs a man when there’s an all-you-can-drink margarita bar, anyway? That’s what she tells herself until she bumps into the right guy who can make all those bad memories disappear.
Even if it’s only temporarily.
Two weeks on the beach is what they both need. No strings attached, no expectations, no broken hearts. Too bad the universe has other plans—one that’ll change the entire course of their lives in just nine short months.
**A complete standalone contemporary romance with a little southern drama**
I’ve been in love with Kennedy Fox since I first read This is War and immediately added them to my auto buy list. Since then, I’ve read every book they’ve written, and thoroughly enjoyed them. I was sad when I found out the Checkmate duets were ending, but got over it pretty quickly when they announced they were writing a series about Courtney’s four cowboy brothers. Because really, who doesn’t love a hot cowboy story?
Taming Him is the story of Alex, the youngest of the four Bishop boys. He’s young, wild, and not looking to settle down. When his best friend Dylan invites him on a trip to Key West, he goes along dreaming about all the woman he’s going to meet. What he doesn’t except to find is River, a pediatric nurse from Wisconsin who knocks Alex right on his butt. These two spend a wild week together, and part ways without a proper goodbye. Alex pines over River for months, until one day she shows up at his doorstep with a bun in the oven.
I loved Alex. He was funny, and sweet, not to mention attractive. He started off as such a playboy, but I loved seeing him grow up when it came to River and their baby. He was so kind and caring with her, and it made my heart burst with joy. Plus, he’s a man who loves his mama, and there isn’t anything more attractive to me than that. I also loved Alex’s relationship with his brothers and his best friend Dylan. They were always giving each other a hard time and their antics made me giggle.
I enjoyed River too, but felt she was missing some of the depth I’ve come to expect from Kennedy Ryan’s heroines. At times I found her to be just a bit boring, and because of that the story itself was a bit slow for me. The one thing though that I could really relate to is her pregnancy, and her thoughts at being pregnant in the heat of the summer. I may have found myself nodding my head in agreement quite a few times!
The ending of Taming Me left me in tears, and had me wiping my eyes and blowing my nose. It was so sweet, and beautifully done. Plus, since having my own babies, birth stories always make me tear up, whether they’re real or fictional. I’m an emotional wreck anymore! All in all, I found Taming Me to be a bit slow in parts and lacking some of the drama I love so much with a Kennedy Fox book. However, I still enjoyed this sweet, romantic story about two people who found their person while on a wild vacation
Taming Him was a tall glass of southern sweet tea. Refreshing, and enough sugar to make your cheeks pucker. At first, I kept thinking that the story was too slow for my tastes, but in a way, that’s what makes it the perfect southern contemporary romance- it takes its time. It focuses on building the relationship and every day moments that bring our couple closer together (than just wild crazy vacation sex 😉 ).
I’ve met men like Alex, true story, they can be as wild as written but run on nothing but love for their mama and their family. Alex is such a big softie, with a dirty mouth- so really, just perfect.
River is a classic Midwestern girl, born and bred, certainly relatable (being from Wisconsin myself!), however, I agree with Emily, that as a whole, River felt one dimensional compared to previous Kennedy Fox women. Still, I am really looking forward to seeing her again in the future Bishop Brothers stories. Especially working alongside Evan.
All in all, Taming Him was a nice light romance, low on drama, high on family, and an every day kind of love.
Kennedy Fox quickly became an auto buy author for me after their Checkmate Duet series because they were so well written and fun! I related to the characters and enjoyed getting to know them. Taming Him was no different! I was so excited when KFox decided to do a spin-off series of Courtney’s cowboy brothers because I fell in love with them. I’m also a Texas native and grow attached to books set in my home state (bonus points if it’s set in my beautiful city of Austin).
I really loved the story because it had that good ole boy Southern charm that I am addicted too…even if the good old boy isn’t all that good if you catch my drift 😉 I was immediately drawn into the book with the first y’all and mention of sweet tea. Em actually asked me if people in Texas actually say Howdy, and yes they do! Alex is one cocky SOB who doesn’t expect River to resist his southern drawl, and River isn’t about to let some cowboy walk right over her. These two were hot and spicy, yet had that slow burn that left me yearning.
I really liked that we got to see these two in a vacation setting, but what really got me was when real life set in for these two and they had to decide how they were going to work in the real world. And they did it beautifully. This has such a tight knit family aspect that I love to read all about. It just makes me so curious about the other characters and how their stories will play out. There is so much love and laughter jam packed into this story that gave me the warm and fuzzies.
Alex. Oh I freaking loved this man. He was cocky and hot as hell, but he also was so sweet and knew how to treat a lady. I swooned over his reaction to River showing up in his town with a little piece of him inside her. He just wanted to do right by River and his child, and he wanted to care and protect River always.
River. I actually didn’t have a problem with River’s character depth. I felt she had a tragic back story that definitely played a role in her current life, and I loved reading about her and what was going on in her head. She was sassy and sweet and wanted to make sure Alex was in it for more than just the baby. She wasn’t willing to let either of them settle and I admired her for that.
I highly recommend this story for those who love: Secret babies, cowboys, sweet heroines, and adventurous heroes.
