One Last Time by Corinne Michaels
Release Date: February 26th, 2018
Genre: Contemporary Romance
From New York Times bestselling author, Corinne Michaels, comes a new heartwarming standalone romance.
I’m getting really good at cutting my losses.
First, the husband. Divorcing him was the best decision I ever made. But between single-parenting and job-hunting, I can’t catch my breath. When a celebrity blogging position falls into my lap, I’m determined to succeed.
That is, until I get my first assignment and actually see Noah Frazier for the first time . . . practically naked and dripping wet. My heart races and I forget how to form complete sentences. His chiseled abs, irresistible smirk, and crystal blue eyes are too perfect to be real. So, what do I do? Get drunk and humiliate myself, of course.
I’m ready to forget the awkward night, yet Noah has no intention of allowing me to move on. Instead, he arranges for me to write a feature on him, ensuring a lot more time together. One embarrassing moment after another, one kiss after another, and before I can stop myself, I realize—I’m falling in love with him.
But when the unthinkable happens, can I even blame him for cutting his losses?
What I wouldn’t give for just one last time . . .
I have read several Corinne Michaels books and she has quickly become an auto-buy author for me. She never fails to deliver a sweet, sizzling second chance romance. One Last Time was a beautiful story about a woman who finds her strength again after being emotionally abused for years and a man who never thought he would ever fall in love again after a tragic accident.
The Story. One Last Time focuses on another one of the four friends we met in We Own Tonight, Kristin. Kristin is finally getting out of a toxic marriage and taking her two children with her. She is ready to move on with her life and start living again despite her asshole ex who keeps making the divorce more than difficult. She landed a job as a celebrity gossip blogger, but doesn’t expect to fall in love with her first assignment, Noah Frazier. Noah bombards his way into her life as a man who cares about her, wants to take care of her, and will do anything to show her that the words used as knives in her gut by her bastard of an ex aren’t in the least bit true. Noah is finding ways to see Kristin just one more time because he can’t get enough of her awkwardness that he finds adorable. The next thing he knows is he is a zookeeper in charge of feeding her daughter’s stuffed animals and in charge of making popcorn for Harry Potter marathons with Finn. However, not everyone is happy to see the two of them together. Will these two whether the storm or will a lifetime of insecurities make it impossible?
This story was beautifully written and felt very real to me. There was a great ebb and flow to the story, which made the book fly by. This group of four friends is really hysterical to read about because you never know what they are going to do next, especially if they are drunk. I was happy to see Eli and Heather again to see their HEA in real life. This book proves that second chances can be all the sweeter and worth every struggle endured along the way. This was a very fast paced romance and it was heartwarming to see that they slowed it down in order to protect the kids and their feelings. That doesn’t mean they don’t get to know Noah, Mommy’s friend, because they do, and those were some of my favorite scenes to read. Noah is just about perfection when it comes to those kids, especially when it comes to Aubrey giving him puppy dog eyes to get her way.
Kristin. I was so happy to read about the character growth she experienced throughout this book. She went from the shell of the woman that she used to be to finding that woman again. She didn’t even realize how emotionally abusive her ex was until she got out of her marriage. Now, she is turning over a new leaf for her and the kids, but she is terrified of what, or rather who, that might be. Kristin is such a strong character who would do absolutely anything to protect those she loves. I thought she was a great character who saw a lot of development. I also loved her quirkiness and her thirst to feel life again.
Noah. Beautiful, perfect Noah. This man is everything a woman wants in a husband and father. He made no apologies for who or what he wanted, and he went after it. He was so respectful of Kristin and what she and the kids were going through. He was the one to distract them when the asshole ex did a number on them. Noah was determined to be the good guy the kids needed to see despite him wanting to punch asshole in the face for the things that he did. From the first time Noah met the kids, he felt like they were his own and treated them as such. Noah was probably my favorite character in this book. I loved his all around personality and the actions he displayed in the book (ok there is one action that I wanted to hit upside the head for, but I will give him a pass).
I highly recommend this book to those who love: second chance romance, kids in the story, late 30s/40s couples, and overall heartwarming stories.
