REVIEW: The Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen

Title:  The Wife Between Us
Author: Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen
Genre:  Contemporary Thriller
Publication Date: January 9, 2018

When you read this book, you will make many assumptions.
You will assume you are reading about a jealous wife and her obsession with her replacement.
You will assume you are reading about a woman about to enter a new marriage with the man she loves.
You will assume the first wife was a disaster and that the husband was well rid of her.
You will assume you know the motives, the history, the anatomy of the relationships.
Assume nothing.

Every once in a while, I like to push myself a little outside of my preferred genres and read something different.  Mysteries and thrillers are not normally something I read, or enjoy for that matter, but when my book Club choice The Wife Between Us for our March book, I wasn’t one to argue.  I went into this one completely blind, not knowing a damn thing, and it completely tilted my world on its axis.  Once I started, I couldn’t stop, and I loved every single minute of it.

I’m not going to say a single thing about the characters in this one, nor am I going to talk about the plot.  That’s a treasure I’ll leave for everyone to discover on their own. This book is best enjoyed with an unsuspecting mind, and I don’t want to be the person to spoil it for anyone!

One of the most important things I can say about The Wife Between Us is that the writing is absolutely stellar, and was not lacking for anything.  Hendricks and Pekkanen have written a twisted tale, that keeps the reader hanging on for every turn and bend in the road.  The writing was smooth, flowed well, and never once felt stuffy and boring.  I thought every sentence was perfectly placed and every word carefully thought out.  I’m always intrigued by books written by two authors.  It amazes me how two different writers, each with their own voice, can come together in such a seamless fashion.

And now for the fangirling portion of the review ;).  I absolutely LOVED every minute I spent with these characters and I wish I could go back and read this one for the very first time.  The Wife Between Us will be making my top reads of the year, and I really hope we will see more from these two ladies.  It drew me completely out of my romance/YA box, and opened my eyes to trying something new.  We chose another thriller for our April read and for the first time I’m excited to dive into it!
