BLOG TOUR: Royally Pucked by Pippa Grant

Title: Royally Pucked
Author: Pippa Grant
Genre: Sexy Romantic Comedy
Release Date: April 6, 2018

A hockey-playing prince, a most improper lady, and one accidental pregnancy…

When you’re an heir so spare that getting attacked by a shark is more likely than you ever wearing the crown, you’re only allowed certain liberties. Yet still, those liberties can bite you in the ass.

Good thing I’m such a charming devil.

Even then, I’ve been banished to America for a year under the pretense of playing professional hockey while my father cleans up my latest mess. But trouble follows me wherever I go. Generally trouble of the beautiful female variety, and Gracie Diamonte is no exception. Or possibly, she’s the best exception.

Until the dinosaur suit. The cookie incident. And the accidental pregnancy.

Of course I’ll do the right thing.

Just as soon as I solve that pesky problem of my royal betrothal.

I’m about to be the biggest scandal to rock my country and there’s a good chance my father may throw me to the sharks after all. The funny thing is I’ve heard that raising children may not be so different from swimming with the sharks. So no matter how you look at things I am Royally Pucked.

Royally Pucked is a hilariously wrong romance between a spare heir and the lady least likely to ever wear a princess crown, complete with dirty cookies, an emotional support monkey, and lots of pucking around. This romantic comedy stands alone with no cheating, cliffhangers and ends happily with a family of… more than two.

Emily’s Review

I’m not going to lie.  Royally Pucked is probably one of my least favorite reads of the year.  And it really irks me because on the outside, it has everything I love about a romance.  It had royalty, hockey, and an unexpected pregnancy that turned everything end over end.  By all means, it should have been the perfect read for me, but unfortunately, I had a really difficult time connecting with the characters, and getting into the story.

Manning is the 4th in line for the throne of a small Nordic country.  Considered the spare heir, Manning’s escapades have gotten out of control, so he’s sent to the states for a year to play hockey for the Cooper Valley Thrusters.  Once in the states, he meets Gracie.  A small tryst leaves him wanting more but his betrothal to the evil Elgin. And royal lockdown keeps him from pursuing anything further.  That is until Gracie shows up at his door announcing her pregnancy.

First of all, I didn’t like Gracie.  She’s let her sister, Joey control her for way too long, and she’s been treated like a baby for most of her life.  She had a bit of a downer attitude and her constant worry about her older sister killing her was a complete downer.  You are a grown adult in your twenties for goodness sakes.  Grow a backbone and just say STOP.  Gracie’s character was just always a little too late in getting stuff down in my opinion.  She felt very forced, and I just couldn’t get on board.

And Manning.  He just kinda weirded me out.  I don’t know if it was the whole Viking background, or what but his entire character felt off.  Even for the spare heir, he was kind of a doofus, and the whole situation was just odd.  Plus there was no buildup with his relationship with Gracie.  Within the first few pages, they were together, and then bam she was pregnant and the shenigans began.  Perhaps I missed out by not reading the first interconnected romance in the series, but this was advertised as a complete standalone and a little background would have been nice.

So, in retrospect, Royally Pucked wasn’t for me, but it doesn’t mean it’s not the right book for you.  There’s a lot of high ratings on both Amazon and Goodreads, so give it a try!

Charli’s Review:

I can’t. I took a chance on this book and author because there was royalty, hockey, and an unexpected pregnancy, which a some of my favorite tropes. However, this book completely flopped for me. I could not connect with the characters and the writing was good, but not great.

Manning was spending a year in the United States playing hockey while his father smoothed over his scandalous decisions back home. Manning was just such a strange character. He acted so immature and was a complete idiot at times. He just rubbed me the wrong way. Gracie was a little better, but not by much. She was a woman who was determined to do things on her own, which I did respect. She finally realized that a baby was the thing she was missing all these years.

I really did want to like this story, but it just never got there for me. I ended up skimming through a lot of it because some of the story was just a bit too ridiculous for my taste. You might have a completely different take on it and I encourage you to read other reviews as well to determine if this book is a book you will enjoy!
