Moving to River’s Edge was supposed to be a fresh start.
Away from chaos.
Away from bad influences and worse relationships.
All I wanted was to give my little brother more of a chance than I ever had.
It should’ve been simple.
I didn’t count on my transgressions following me.
And I definitely didn’t count on meeting Dare.
Tall, tortured, and tattooed.
A Lost Boy through and through.
Falling for someone like him was asking for heartache.
But I was a sucker for punishment.
I had a routine.
Eat, work, sleep, repeat, only ever doing the bare minimum to keep up appearances.
I kept my circle small and my guard high.
I spent years making sure I didn’t repeat the mistakes of my past, forming an impenetrable layer of ice around my heart.
Then Logan showed up in my town, in my tattoo shop, testing my patience along with my self-control.
She was fire and I was ice.
I should’ve stayed away.
But I had been cold for far too long.
I read Bad Habit last year because I loved the cover. It was on KU, and I’ve always enjoyed a good, angst New Adult romance. And Charleigh Rose delivered and then some. It was one of my favorite reads of 2017, and I’ve anxiously been awaiting the Dare’s story since. I couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen to this dark, brooding, and secretive character, and I knew I’d been in for one heck of a ride!
Lo comes to town, with her younger brother in tow, to escape a messed up home life, and a drug addicted mother. Moving them in with a father they barely know, Lo is determined to get them on their feet again. When she goes looking for a job, she stumbles into Dare’s tattoo shop, Bad Intentions, and the meeting is less than stellar. Dare’s rude, angry, and barely let’s Logan get a word in before he very promptly shows her the door. But fate has other plans, and Lo and Dare continue to meet and soon sparks fly and it’s just on fire!
I loved Dare so, so much in this book. I’ve always had a thing for the strong, silent types, and Dare checked off all my boxes. Plus, it was both heartbreaking and uplifting to learn his story and to see how he and Lo help to heal each other. Lo helps him so much to come to terms with his past, while at the same time, he saves her from her own past mistakes.
Lo is the perfect choice for Dare. She’s tough, and headstrong, and isn’t afraid to give as good as she gets. I loved that about her. The other thing that I adored about Lo, was her absolute, unconditional love for her brother. They had been through so much, and while she was basically just a kid herself, she worked so hard to give him a better life. I loved seeing that kind of sibling bond.
I Need so much more of this series, and there are still so many characters I need to see get a happy ever after, so I really hope that Charleigh continues giving us more Nd more of these books, because I am forever grateful to her for bringing these characters into my life!
