BLOG TOUR: Keeping Him by Kennedy Fox

Jackson Bishop is your typical playboy.

Unpredictable, charming, and overly confident.

Growing up in Texas, the ranch life is all he’s ever known. Horses and late night partying are his lifestyles, and all the local girls know it too. Riding lessons aren’t the only things taught at the stables, and he makes sure clients never leave unsatisfied. Everyone knows Jackson’s a wild card, but not everything is as it seems. He may be a womanizer on the surface, but he’s hiding deep feelings about the one who’s had his heart since he was a teen. Unfortunately, it’s not as simple as roping her in and claiming her as his.

Kiera Young is well-known for her sassy nature and outgoing personality. Though she’s one of the best horse trainers in the area, she’s never been able to tame her best friend and the man she’s secretly loved since she was fifteen—Jackson Bishop. She’s waited years for him to confess his true feelings but as time goes on, she decides she’s done waiting. Kiera finally meets a man who promises to give her the world, and when he pops the question, she says yes—knowing they’re both ready to settle down and start a family.

Even if her heart beats for another man.

Jackson’s certain he’s lost Kiera for good and has no one to blame but himself. However, on the day of her wedding, he can’t bring himself to watch the woman he loves walk down the aisle to someone else. Kiera’s already having second thoughts and knows she can’t get married without his support. It’s not until she’s at the altar that she realizes she can’t let Jackson go and will do whatever it takes to keep him—even if it means running out on her own wedding.

Emily’s Review

I have been a Kennedy Fox fan since the very beginning.  I’ve read every book either as an ARC, or right on release date.  I can’t get enough of their stories.  There characters are like family, and have grown to be some of my most favorite literary romance characters ever.  Because of this, Keeping Him is a bit of a bittersweet read for me, because it almost feels like it’s the end of an era.  I’ve been reading about these characters, first in the Checkmate Duet series, and now in the Bishop Brothers series, and I’m really sad to see them go.  However, K Fox did me right, and really took them out with a bang, and this is by far my favorite book in the Bishop Brothers books.

Keeping Him is about Jackson (finally!!!!).  I’ve been waiting for this book on pins and needles since they announced this set of standalone books.  I have been in love with Jackson since I first met him way back in Courtney and Drew’s books.  He was hilarious and funny, but I knew there was so much more to him than that.  Plus, Courtney and Lyra have been teasing us about what was to come in his book for months now, and it was all just too much!

Keeping Him is, by far, the best book that Kennedy Fox has written yet.  With each book, I see their writing become stronger and stronger, and I love how these two mesh so well together as writers.  Keeping Him is a bit different from there other books, because it is definitely a slow burn romance.  The suspense of whether our two main characters will come together builds and builds through a bit over the first half of the book.  In that time, we see and learn a lot about both characters.  We’re also privy to Trent, Kiera’s fiancee, who basically is a big, giant douchebag.  The story unfolds through dual points of view, until it culminates into one of the cutest, sweetest love stories I’ve ever read.  Kiera and Jackson are made for each other, and finally seeing them together was just the icing on the cake.

Keeping Him was a five star read for me, though I will note that I did think that the first half of the book drug just a little in parts, and some of the plot was easily predictable for me.  But it wasn’t enough to take away from the story, or my rating.  Overall, it was a fantastic book.  It was funny, sexy as hell, and the relationship between these two was sweet and romantic.  There were so many things in this book that made my heart hurt in the best way possible.

If you haven’t started to read Kennedy Fox, I recommend you go all the way back to the beginning and start with This is War, the first book in the Checkmate Duet series.  While all the duets, and the four books in the Bishop Brothers series can be read as standalones, I think it brings so much more to the stories if you read them in publication order as each books builds upon the events that happened in the previous stories.

5 Stars!!

Charli’s Review

Another fantastic Kfox book from this amazing team of ladies! I have loved their books from the beginning and I am sure I will love them until the end. Keeping Him is the fourth and final Bishop Brothers book and it was definitely a hit!

I loved how this story was written. I have seen these two characters dancing around each other through all three of the other books, and I was finally ready for them to get their shot. Of course, it was easier said than done! This was the slowest burning romance these two have ever done…for good reason. In order to capture the beauty of this couple as a whole, Kfox had to take us back to the beginning and take us through what was going on with them while the other brothers were falling in love. Usually I despise this because I want to know what is happening in the here and now, but, for this book, it was absolutely perfect. The writing, the story, the sense of family Kfox builds into their books…it was just right.

Kiera. She is one hell of a woman for waiting and fighting and holding on for fifteen years for the one man she has always loved to get his head out of his ass. I love this woman fiercely and I ached for her every time she was slammed with something new. I also jumped for joy for her when things went her way. I loved this sweet, sassy woman who is the only one who could have put up with Jackson’s shit.

Jackson. This man is exhausting, but I adore him. He puts up a front for everyone else, but when it comes to Kiera he gives her all of him, even when he thinks he isn’t good enough for her. Jackson’s antics were hysterical and his passion was beautiful to see pouring off the page. Childhood friends to lovers is one of my favorite tropes because of this couple right here, and I hope this isn’t the last I see of them and the rest of the Bishop brothers!

Overall Rating: 5/5 Stars!

April’s Review

!!!Slight spoilers (maybe?)- YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!

I’ll tell you this much, it is difficult to say goodbye to the Bishop’s, the family that crept its way into all of our hearts.

We’ve been waiting for this, this couple- it feels like Alex, Evan, and John’s stories were just warming us up for Jackson. This epitome of the bad boy with a heart of gold. He has such a deeply rooted love of family, and yet a mountain of insecurities buried under all that charm. He is, without a single doubt, my favorite Bishop (I’M SORRY, EVAN, YOU UNDERSTAND!).

Keeping Him is a slow burn, angsty, southern drama, sexy conclusion to Jackson and Kiera’s life long history. I had so many thoughts while reading this, SO MANY THOUGHTS, and I really don’t know where the hell to begin so let’s just close our eyes and jump-

First, Jackson, my sweet man, has been fighting his feelings for Kiera for A LIFETIME because he doesn’t feel worthy, he doesn’t feel good enough, he doesn’t feel like he can provide her with the life she deserves.

Jackson, YOU FOOLISH MAN. As mad as Kiera made me, Jackson was just as bad. The lack of communication between these two, DESPITE being able to read each other better than themselves, provides a whole new level of angst. Well done KF, well done in making me so mad but also so much in love.

Kiera, this girl, I really empathize with her. Her need and desire to be loved is so strong that she ends up ignoring GIANT FLASHING OMINOUS LIGHTS OF WARNING just because she is so lonely. Her friends and family around her are finding their happily ever after’s and the one man she wants more than anything seemingly doesn’t want her in return. She is desperate to find her own happiness and so of course… she settles. This makes us readers mad as hell, but you have to admit, this happens more often than not in reality. As sad and infuriating as it may be.

The first half of the book is the time leading up to Kiera’s wedding to Trent the Tool, along with some mingled in flashbacks of Kiera and Jackson’s young adulthood. While this may feel like a tortuous amount of slow burn and maybe unnecessary (GIVE US THE SEXY TIMES), I think it is fitting for these two. They are finding their way to each other, and running into every emotional and mental road block imaginable.

By the time our couple realize they’ve been complete idiots and that YES they CAN have their HEA WITH EACH OTHER, we have to deal with the repercussions of those choices, but hey- all’s fair in love and war. As another reviewer (Imani, hey girl!) said, IT’S ABOUT DAMN TIME.

There is enough drama in addition to our main couple getting over their misguided assumptions of each other, lying bastards, conniving twats to feed our drama fueled souls- but also a family that sticks together through it all and supports each other no matter what. (collective “awww”)

As far as the writing as a whole (another reviewer and I agree that), Keeping Him really shows that KF has truly found their groove. I love watching writer’s evolve, especially when I’ve been with them since their near beginning, and KF has definitely honed in on their art. I cannot, CANNOT, wait to see what they bring us next.

If you’re a fan of swoony alpha heroes, feisty heroines, humorous family dynamics, and witty banter, then you’re going to want to meet the Bishop Brothers! This Southern family loves hard & plays even harder!!
