TOP TEN THURSDAY: Romantic Suspense Edition

Hello loves! I am here to bring you another Top Ten list! This one is all about the romantic suspense because it is one of my favorite genres to read. Most of these books revolve around military or security firms, which is honestly my kryptonite. These are all four and five star reads for me and are listed in no particular order. I will provide a Goodreads synopsis and then a few quick thoughts if I did not originally write a review for it!

  1. Rock Chick (Rock Chick, #1) by Kristen Ashley

6538757.jpgIndy Savage, cop’s daughter, rock chick and used bookstore owner, has been in love with Lee Nightingale, once bad boy, now the man behind Nightingale Investigations, since she was five years old. No matter what ingenious schemes Indy used to capture his attention, Lee never showed an interest and Indy finally gave up. Now Indy’s employee, Rosie, has lost a bag of diamonds and bad guys are shooting at him. When Indy gets involved, Lee is forced to help. Complicating matters, Lee has decided he’s interested, Indy’s decided she’s not. But she can’t seem to keep Lee out of her life when she’s repeatedly stun gunned, kidnapped and there are car bombs exploding (not to mention she’s finding dead bodies).

Indy’s best bet is to solve the mystery of the diamonds before Lee. Lee’s challenge is to keep Indy alive and, at the same time, win back her heart.

Quick Thoughts: This series is not your typical romantic suspense because it is a little more light hearted and funny AF. The things that these Rocks Chicks and the Hot Bunch get into is downright suspenseful and hilarious. I highly recommend these books! They are also awesome audiobooks!

  1. Axel (Corps Security, #1) by Harper Sloan

25168121Fate hasn’t always been friends with Isabelle West. In fact, fate has been a downright bitch.

Isabelle has learned the hard way how hard life can be when fate isn’t by your side. It can hand you dreams on silver platters, but it can snatch them right back and hand you nightmares. One thing Isabelle knew for sure fate was consistent with was taking away everything she ever loved.

For the last two years Isabelle has been slowly clearing the clouds of her past. Happiness is finally on the horizon. She has a thriving business, great friends, and her life back. All she has to do is jump over the last hurdle…her ex-husband.

When problems start causing her to fear her new life, and memories that are better left forgotten start rushing to the surface the last thing she needs is a ghost from her past to come knocking on her door.

Axel never thought he would look into the eyes of Isabelle West again, and he wasn’t sure he wanted to now. He’s carried his anger for so long he isn’t sure he can just turn it off, but when he is faced with protecting her and an unexpected desire to have her again, life gets a little more complicated.

How will Axel and Isabelle deal when all their cards are put on the table and everything they thought was true blows up in their faces?

Quick Thoughts: All of the Corps Security books are about military vets who run an elite security firm. Each one can technically be read as a standalone, but there is so much crossover that you should definitely read them in order. These books are swoon-y and suspenseful. I love it because they are such a tight knit group of friends who have each other’s backs no matter what.

3. The Darkest Hour (KGI, #1) By Maya Banks

6634409It’s been one year since ex-Navy SEAL Ethan Kelly last saw his wife Rachel alive. Overwhelmed by grief and guilt over his failures as a husband, Ethan shuts himself off from everything and everyone.

His brothers have tried to bring Ethan into the KGI fold, tried to break through the barriers he’s built around himself, but Ethan refuses to respond… until he receives anonymous information claiming Rachel is alive.

To save her, Ethan will have to dodge bullets, cross a jungle, and risk falling captive to a deadly drug cartel that threatens his own demise. And even if he succeeds, he’ll have to force Rachel to recover memories she can’t and doesn’t want to relive—the minute by minute terror of her darkest hour—for their love, and their lives, may depend on it.

Quick Thoughts: This series will always be one of my favorites because it surrounds seven brothers who were in different branches of the military. They come together after they leave the military to create an elite hostage rescue and recovery group. Each brother gets their own story of how they fell in love, and we also get the other team members stories too! It is truly such an amazing series that just builds on top of each other. I will say that my favorites are books 1-7, but the others are still pretty good!

4. Mister Black (In the Shadows, #1) by P.T. Michelle

Fashionable suitWhen Talia crashes a masked party, the charismatic and dominant Mister Black is the one man who can either help or expose her. Neither can deny their attraction, but what happens when one hot night together turns into so much more…

We all have someone who crossed our path and fundamentally changed us. That one person who blew through our lives, their presence forever stamped on our psyche. They linger in our thoughts, in our hearts, and in the decisions we make. A soul crusher or a dream maker, depending on the perspective.

My person is MISTER BLACK.
I didn’t know him by that name when I first met him.
I didn’t know him at all, but the impression he left behind was just as powerful as the name I call him today.

He is Black: a deadly enforcer and masterful seducer.
I am Red: a justice bleeder and willing participant.
Together we are passion. Colors colliding through each other’s lives.

When our secrets converge in a passionate encounter,
stepping out of the shadows just might be worth the risk.

Quick Thoughts: This is one of the hottest books that I have ever read because it is so mysterious and has more of a slow burn feel to it. This series always keeps you guessing as to what is going to happen next and where everyone will end up by the end of the book. Seriously some of the sexiest scenes that I have ever read, and that is really saying something!

5. Hungry Like the Wolf (SWAT, #1) by Paige Tyler

21898402The Dallas SWAT team is hiding one helluva secret . . . they’re a pack of wolf shifters.

The team of elite sharpshooters is ultra-secretive—and also the darlings of Dallas. This doesn’t sit well with investigative journalist Mackenzie Stone. They must be hiding something . . . and she’s determined to find out what.

Keeping Mac at a distance proves impossible for SWAT team commander Gage Dixon. She’s smart, sexy, and makes him feel alive for the first time in years. But she’s getting dangerously close to the truth—and perilously close to his heart…

Quick Thoughts: This series is a little more on the cheesy side, but I still love it. It is about a pack of wolf shifters that find their mates in all sorts of suspenseful ways. It gets a teeny tiny repetitive, but I love this group of characters so much that I look past it.

6. Broken (Broken, #1) by J.L. Drake

25755767My name is Savannah Miller.

My father is the mayor of New York. One day after my twenty-seventh birthday I was grabbed from behind. A cloth sack was quickly pulled over my head, and I was taken from everything I’d ever known.

I was beaten, starved, treated like an animal, and forced to live in a room with no windows. With no sense of time and no dignity left I finally gave up hope and made a promise to myself to end it all.

Unfortunately, it was going to be a slow process.

Then one night an elite group of US Army soldiers came to my rescue. I was brought to a safe house and given two options:

One- Stay under their protection and follow their rules or…

Two- Leave and be guaranteed to be returned to the savages within a week.

I chose option one.

As I work with a therapist and begin processing my hellish ordeal things slowly begin to surface. With the help of new friends and a potential new love I fight to get my life back and make choices that will forever alter my future.

This is my story…

Quick Thoughts: Now this is a book/author that will always hold a special place in my heart. This is Cole and Savi’s story and it definitely keeps you on the edge of your feet. What is really special about this book is that it is set in a secret active military operation and the supporting characters help create a sense of family and love in these books. I honestly fell for the side characters as hard as I fell for the main characters. I could never get enough of this group!

7. Leather & Lace (Trident Security, #1) by Samantha A. Cole

39067463How does a “vanilla” woman write a BDSM novel? With hands-on research!

Kristen needs inspiration and first-hand experience for a sequel to her unexpected and kinky bestseller. Devon, an ex-Navy SEAL and private club owner, is all too happy to help.

Soon, a single weekend of hot and dirty sex turns into something more. But while they fight their connection, a killer has Devon in his sights.

Will they survive with their hearts and lives intact?

8. The Foxhole Court (All for the Game, #1) by Nora Sakavic

29810275Neil Josten is the newest addition to the Palmetto State University Exy team. He’s short, he’s fast, he’s got a ton of potential—and he’s the runaway son of the murderous crime lord known as The Butcher.

Signing a contract with the PSU Foxes is the last thing a guy like Neil should do. The team is high profile and he doesn’t need sports crews broadcasting pictures of his face around the nation. His lies will hold up only so long under this kind of scrutiny and the truth will get him killed.

But Neil’s not the only one with secrets on the team. One of Neil’s new teammates is a friend from his old life, and Neil can’t walk away from him a second time. Neil has survived the last eight years by running. Maybe he’s finally found someone and something worth fighting for.

9. Gabriel’s Rule (The Escort, #1) by Sloane Kennedy

25149108After nearly ten years of moonlighting as a professional escort, Gabriel Maddox is good at giving women the forbidden pleasures they crave. They don’t need to know that something inside of him dies a little each time he does it or that his desperate need for cash is the only reason he can’t walk away. They just need to know that to get what they want, they have to play by his rules.

Riley Sinclair is starting over. She’s left dry, dusty Texas and her ultra conservative, fanatically religious parents and cheating, mean-spirited fiancé behind for a new life in Seattle. But one look at her stunningly gorgeous new neighbor Gabe brings back all the insecurities she’s trying to escape.

Gabe can only offer Riley pleasure but when she discovers that his perfect outside hides something terribly broken on the inside, will she risk her heart to give him what he needs?

Quick Thoughts: This author has a lot of crossovers in her series so I started from the very beginning with her, and I am on about book 7. I included the first book she ever wrote not because it is the best, but because it is the start of a fantastic series of romantic suspense books. There is a lot fo diversity written in this series and it is fantastic.

10. Hard as It Gets (Hard Ink, #1) by Laura Kaye

18680106Tall, dark, and lethal…

Trouble just walked into Nicholas Rixey’s tattoo parlor. Becca Merritt is warm, sexy, wholesome–pure temptation to a very jaded Nick. He’s left his military life behind to become co-owner of Hard Ink Tattoo, but Becca is his ex-commander’s daughter. Loyalty won’t let him turn her away. Lust has plenty to do with it too.

With her brother presumed kidnapped, Becca needs Nick. She just wasn’t expecting to want him so much. As their investigation turns into all-out war with an organized crime ring, only Nick can protect her. And only Becca can heal the scars no one else sees.

Desire is the easy part. Love is as hard as it gets. Good thing Nick is always up for a challenge..

Quick Thoughts: Basically this book combines two of my favorite things…a security firm and a tattoo parlor as the front. It is seriously good and surrounds a tight knit group of friends and family.
