REVIEW: The Boy I Grew Up With by Tijan

I have loved Channing Monroe all my life.

In first grade, he asked for my Trapper Keeper.
I hit him in the head with it.
Third grade, we were best friends. We kissed in seventh grade.
Eighth grade, he turned into a bad boy and the rest was a tumultuous storm.

Growing up, the problem was never love for us.
Bad times. Good times. There were times when I felt our love in every inch of my body, vibrating, making me feel like it could bring me back to life.

The problem was us.

The problem is that we’re living in two different worlds now.
Fallen Crest and its millionaires for me. Roussou and their criminals for him. I was thriving in mine and he was running his.

But there were nights I felt we couldn’t be further apart than we were, and there were nights I felt we shared the same heartbeat.

When was it time?
When was it time to either sacrifice, make a change, or walk away from the boy I grew up with?

This book was a long time in the making. I have watched Heather and Channing as side characters throughout all of the Fallen Crest series and through Crew, and now they are finally getting their own book. It was definitely worth the wait.

If you have followed me in any capacity for a while, then you know how much of a Tijan fan I am. She is my unicorn author who I will follow to the ends of the earth. I have read almost every single book by her and she just constantly blows me away. I love the way she tells stories and the characters that she comes up with. They are honestly original characters who grow so much. This story and these characters are no different. I loved how we got to see these two grow up through flashbacks in order to capture their entire journey. They have such a rollercoaster of a journey, but it was so worth it in the end.

Heather is the definition of a kickass heroine who is hella loyal and will to do sacrifice anything for those she loves. This woman has been through so much in her young life and she just keeps getting up and keeps going. She is a mother bear to all those who friend her and she is as sarcastic and bitchy as they come. She only lets a select few into her inner circle and only one man gets past all her walls to see the real her. I admire the hell out of Heather and I absolutely adore her.

Channing is one badass mofo who is not to be messed with. He started the crew system in an effort to protect Heather and her friends and continues to lead these people in the hopes of keeping his town clean. He is not afraid to get his hands dirty to endure the safety of those around him. The only woman he has ever loved is his best friend, but when his crew business endangers Heather, he starts to wonder if he is going to have to walk away from her.

I love love love Channing and Heather. They have been through hell and back together and have come out stronger for it. The bond that these two share is once in a lifetime. It is worth standing up and fighting for even if the odds are stacked against them. The chemistry these two have is off the charts and makes me swoon.

Thank you, Tijan, for bringing this world to life!
