Title: Make You Mine
Author: Tia Louise
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Publication Date: December 1, 2018
A promise written on a coaster.
A lost night in a dark room.
Grayson Cole was my brother’s best friend.
He was all of my firsts.
Then he went away…
Drew Harris was just a kid, a senior in high school, my best friend’s little sister.
They said she was too young to know her feelings.
I was too old to have them, so I left to join the military.
Four years passed.
Loss, injury, angry words I can never take back…
I’m home, but I’m not the same.
Neither is she.
Now she’s a woman with flashing blue eyes, long blonde hair, and gorgeous curves.
Still, she’s the same sweet smile, the same sassy mouth…
I could never say No to her before.
I should for her sake.
She deserves better than what I’ve become, scarred and damaged.
“They told me to stay away from you.
I went away to try… God, I tried.
Now everything has changed. I’m back, and
I’ll do whatever it takes to make you mine…”
Oh man! This was my first Tia Louise book and it certainly won’t be my last! Make You Mine was rife with tragedy and angst that kept me reading. I am a sucker for military romance and when you add in best friend’s little sister…well I was done for!
I thought this book was very well written and I loved the way the author told this story. She did a fantastic job of making me feel what the characters were going through and the emotions they felt. I was able to get a few flashbacks to their past and how the characters all grew up together. Grayson and Drew were drawn together from a very early age, but short minded, judgmental people kept them apart. People who felt that outsiders should never feel welcomed into their town because they were deemed less worthy.
Drew is a beautiful soul who is accepting of anyone and everyone. She doesn’t care what the world thinks about her and her relationships. She is the definition of a caretaker and one who strives to help those around her. I felt like Drew was a lot older than she really is and it was amazing to see her journey.
Grayson. This man owns my heart in this book. He has been put through the wringer his entire life and all he has ever wanted is to feel like he belonged. He is protective and the epitome of strength, especially when it comes to Drew. All he has ever wanted is the girl he has known almost his entire life. She sees through him like no one else and I loved the sense of comfort she felt around Grayson. The message sent through Grayson’s journey is an important one about forgiveness and fighting for what you want.
Overall Rating: 4.25/5 Stars!
Tia Louise is an author I’ve had on my radar for quite some time, but just hadn’t gotten a chance to read yet. When I read the synopsis for Make You Mine, I was immediately hooked on the idea of a military romance/best friend’s little sister, and I knew this would be full of angst and emotions and I was ready for it. And let me tell you, Grayson and Drew didn’t fail to give me a story that I absolutely fell in love with.
Make You Mine started out light and relaxing, and sucked me right into the story. I was immediately intrigued with Drew and Grayson’s story. Grayson is from the wrong side of the tracks, and despite the fact that he’s a good upstanding citizen, he’s looked down on by everyone in the town. He runs the local garage with his uncle, and it’s there where he has a run in with Drew’s father who basically tells him that he’s completely beneath her and that he will never be good enough. With that in mind, Grayson goes off to college to prove that he can make something of himself, followed by four years in the military.
However, when Grayson comes back from the military, he’s a sliver of the man that he was. Haunted by the demons of war, and burdened with feelings of guilt, Grayson returns to his hometown, and reopens his uncle’s garage. When he sees Drew again, all those same feelings of passion and love return, and accumulate into a stunningly beautiful story.
Tia Louise has created a great world, and a great cast of characters with Make You Mine. I loved Drew’s best friend Ruby, and thought she was absolutely hilarious. I need her story now! I also need to know if Ralph gets a happy ever after. He was annoying and constantly talked almonds, but everyone deserves a little love!
Overall, I really enjoyed this one and I’ll be going back to check out more from Tia in the coming months!
