REVIEW: Cyclone (Linear Tactical, #1) by Janie Crouch

41797519.jpgHe’d protect her from any threat… But what if the biggest threat is him?

Doctor Anne Griffin is back in Oak Creek, Wyoming only because she has no other options. Here, she was always the shy, stuttering girl, invisible to everyone.

Except Zac Mackay. The very reason she left in the first place.

Zac’s years in Special Forces taught him survival skills, and he’s created a company–Linear Tactical–to teach those skills to others, so they never have to live in fear.

Then why is Annie, the last person he’d ever want to hurt, afraid of him?

Zac’s determined to wipe the fear from the eyes of the woman who has never been far from his mind. And fix the mistakes–his mistakes–that put that look there in the first place.

But a predator has set his sights on Annie. And now survival skillswill become much more than lessons…

This was my first book by this author and I am hooked. I love romantic suspense so I knew that I would love this one. Plus Janie threw in some second chance romance, and I was sold.

After grief led them to an unforgettable night, Anne and Zac did not think they would ever see each other again. However, a series of events led Anne back to the town she grew up in, and an accident landed Zac in her ER. All of the feelings that they bottled away all of those years ago came pouring out and neither was strong enough to resist them for long. As these two battle their feelings and overcome their obstacles, a serial rapist is on the move with his sights set on Anne.

Zac is my favorite. He served nine years in the Army and started up Linear Tactical with his army buddies when he got out. Zac is still grieving over the loss of his wife, Becky, and son six years ago, but when he runs into Anne again after their unforgettable night six years ago, he realizes she has a deep fear of him that resulted from the night his drunkenness stole his memory. Zac is determined to get to the bottom of their unforgettable night that he can no longer remember. However, when he finally learns the truth, he realizes there is no way to ever make up for his behavior, but he is determined to try. This leads to the courting of a lifetime and I absolutely loved it. I loved the Zac now getting to know the Anne now.

Zac may be my favorite, but Anne is the heart that I relate to the most. Anne has always been forgettable and no one even recognized her when she moved back to town. That might have to do with the fact she has a new last name after being married then divorced. She has always taken care of herself and absorbed the pain others inflicted on her. One thing that I learned from Anne is that there is strength in being quiet. Despite being quiet, Anne is strong and will kick and scream to survive. Once Zac and co come barging into her life, she has to learn to let others take care of her and that there are people in the world who will do anything to help her.

What sold me even more on this book was the suspense element that was a side plot in this book. I thought I had the bad guy all figure out only to have a complete twist in the end that left me shocked.

Overall Rating: 5/5 Stars!
