The list of things I hate is short. Not even my soon-to-be ex-husband is on that list. Nope. I save only the worst of the worst, the crème de la crème, the absolute I cannot even for this list . . .

1. Black coffee

2. Rude people

3. Nathaniel Bradley

Which is why when my father informs me that he’s making Nathaniel Bradley his new business partner, and in turn, my boss, I flip out.

1. He’s an annoying know-it-all.

2. He calls me a spoiled princess every chance he gets.

3. He disapproves of everything I do.

I go into this knowing I’ll hate every second in his presence. Except the longer he’s around, the more I find myself staring at his lips and remembering the one time they were on mine. I randomly find myself looking at his hands and wondering how they’d feel on my skin.

I try to snap out of it, but I guess I’m not as smart as I thought I was. No matter how many times I remind myself of the times I’ve practically thrown myself at him and he’s pushed me away, I keep falling little by little.

I’d always heard that it was a bad idea to mix business with pleasure and if that’s the case, this thing with Nathaniel has demise written all over it.

Review

Emily’s Review

The Consequence of Falling is your classic enemies to lovers romance.  Presley first meets Nathaniel when she is 16 years old, on one of the worst days of her life.  She immediately takes an instant dislike to his cocky attitude, and the fact that he acts like he completely understands and knows her situation.  As the years go on, Nathaniel grows closer to Presley’s father, and he seems to be around every turn she makes.  It isn’t until years after their first meeting, that Presley begins to see who Nathaniel really is under all the anger and cockiness.

This is the second book that I’ve read by Claire Contreras, and I enjoyed The Consequence of Falling much more than the first.  I was hesitant to read this one because of my previous experiences, but the cover for this one just kept drawing me in.  It’s absolutely breathtaking, and I had to know what was in the pages of this beauty.  I ended up falling in love with these characters, and the romance that was entwined throughout the pages.

Characterwise, I struggled a bit with Presley.  She’s a bit of an unlikeable character, but I can’t pinpoint exactly why.  She has an attitude from the very first page of the book, and the attitude continues throughout the subsequent pages.  The attitude was worse around Nathaniel, of course, and it was a bit distracting from the love story that was supposed to be developing between the two of them.  There was definitely growth in her character, but I wish it would have been a bit more substantial.  Presley’s character faces a lot of different hardships, and I feel like the angst was all their for her development but sometimes it was just a little stagnant.  As for Nathaniel, I loved his character.  He was an incredible individual and his love for both Presley and her father was unmatched.  The fact that he could see past Presley’s anger and attitude said something for his character, and I loved the fact that he was so genuine.  In my humble opinion, Nathaniel’s character made this story for me, and I wanted more from him then I got.

This book did make me excited to go back and give Claire’s books a second chance.  I enjoyed her story telling in this one, and the different themes she wove into the story, like Presley and her father’s journey to different baseball stadiums.  This story touched my heart in a few different places, and was overwell, a well written and enjoyable read!

4/5 Stars!

Charli’s Review

Oh boy! This was quite the enemies to lovers story that had me guessing what was going to come out of each of the main characters’ mouth!

I loved the banter and the bickering that Presley and Nathaniel engaged in. They definitely kept me on my toes the entire read. Presley with her smart mouth and Nathaniel with his cocky attitude. This book was not as deep, but it still took some investigating to figure out what was underneath all of the hostility these two characters threw back and forth.

It got to the point where I just wanted to bang their heads together, then have them kiss and makeup. I definitely want to read more books by Claire, especially since I am going to see her at a book signing next month!

Overall Rating: 4/5 Stars!
