Title:  Heavy Equipment
Author:  Skye Warren
Genre:  Contemporary/Erotica
Publication Date:  November 26, 2018

I’ve been raised as the good, obedient daughter, but I never expected to be sold to pay my father’s debts. Cold. Rough. Merciless. The foreman of the construction crew is going to make me pay every last cent.

Author’s Note: The hero is Asher Cook, the construction foreman from Survival of the Richest, though this is not part of the series and can be heard as a standalone.

Charli’s Review

I have become a HUGE fan of Read Me Romance these past few weeks. They are short and sweet with a lot of bantering among the hosts that have me gut laughing. They are just so fun because these ladies understand my love of books and sexy book boyfriends. I am going to be so sad when I catch up because I am only going to get to listen to one a day! Anyway, I digress. One of my favorite things that this podcast does is introduce me to authors I have not read before, which is the case with Skye Warren for me.

I am usually not one for arranged marriage tropes, but I actually really liked this one. I was getting lots of Beauty and the Beast vibes where yes the heroine was terrified in the beginning, but she grew to love this dominating man who took her captive. June is a proper girl on the outside whose body gives away her longing for Asher and his dirty mouth. Asher was such an intriguing character that I wanted to know more about. This book was HOT, HOT, HOT, and I could not get enough of it.

I think I would have enjoyed this story a smidge more if I had read the other books, but I was still completely enthralled in this story. I thought it was well written and had a great pace to it.

Overall Rating: 4/5 Stars!

Emily’s Review

If you’ve been here over the last few weeks, then you know that I’ve now a solid fan of the Read Me Romance podcast.  I love the girls that host, and I’ve really enjoyed almost every book I’ve listened to so far.  Plus, I’ve been introduced to some great new authors that I’ve been adding to my never ending TBR pile.  Unfortunately, Heavy Equipment hasn’t been among my favorite of the audio books.  It’s not that I didn’t like it, I just didn’t LOVE it.

Heavy Equipment is the story of a young woman, who is traded into marriage by her father to save his dying business.  Basically he trades her for a loan.  From the beginning that didn’t sit well with me, and I think part of it is, I don’t like unwilling relationships in my books.  It’s one thing if its enemies to lovers, but it’s a completely different thing when it’s a woman who is unawares of the situation and suddenly finds herself being “owned” by a man that expects her to be his.  Obviously it wasn’t a situation of coercion, because the main character was an active participant in all of the sexy situations, but for me, it was just a bit of a stretch.

Honestly, I feel like I would have enjoyed this one a bit better also if I had read the Survival of the Richest series, and met the hero before this book.  Going into this without ANY background made it feel like we were jumping right into the middle of the story for me, and I had a hard time coming to terms with that.

Writing wise, I really liked Skye Warren’s plotting and pacing.  I’m excited to see what else she has written and after doing some digging, I realized I actually have Survival of the Fittest already on my shelves, so I’m hoping to read that one in the next few weeks!  I’ll let you know what I think once I finish!

For Heavy Equipment, I ended up giving this one 3.5/5 Stars!
