REVIEW: Dead of Night (Thorne Hill, #1) by Emily Goodwin

I might have learned that lesson the hard way. But when I find myself in a vampire-owned bar, I don’t have much of a choice. With vampires still trying to assimilate into mainstream society, I’ve done Lucas King a favor by stopping one of his patrons from draining a human dry in the basement of his bar. A favor he’d prefer to repay in bed than in kind.

Vampires and witches have had more than a jaded history, and when witches start showing up dead in surrounding covens, all signs point to something old and powerful. Something that knows the ways of the witches.

Something–or someone–like Lucas.

What’s worse than trusting a vampire? Falling in love with one.

REVIEW:

I have been on such a paranormal kick lately so this book came at just the right time. I absolutely love Emily Goodwin’s work, and have fallen in love with the way she writes stories.

Dead of Night is the start of a new paranormal series about witches and vampires and demons…OH MY! I loved the vibe of this book and I am so excited to see where this is going. There were a few cliches like the fact that her black cat’s name is Binx, but I think it adds to the charm of this book. This book was so mysterious and haunting. I wanted some more scenes with Callie and Lucas kicking ass, but will hopefully get them in the next couple of books.

Callie was forced to hide who she truly was most of her childhood because her conservative family was ashamed to have a witch in the family. She has always had to hold back who she is at heart until she finds a home with her coven. She really lets herself go and stand up for who she is when she meets Lucas because he accepts all of her. I loved Callie’s sass and her quirks. She is a headstrong heroine who strives to do the right thing.

Lucas is a 1600 year old vampire who has been missing a piece of himself for centuries. He doesn’t expect to find it in a pint size human witch who makes him feel things for the first time in his very long existence. Lucas is one badass vampire who tears the throats out of his enemies, but is tender and sweet with Callie. He will do anything for her because she is his and he knows he won’t survive without her.

I can’t wait for book 2!

Overall Rating: 4/5 Stars!
