REVIEW: Darkest Flame (Dark Kings, #1) by Donna Grant

18169912.jpgIn Darkest Flame by Donna Grant, the Dark Kings have fought for centuries to preserve their dragon magic. But one of the most powerful warriors of his kind will be put to the ultimate test. Is he strong enough to resist his greatest temptations? Or will he be forced to surrender—body and soul?

Denae Lacroix is a beautiful MI5 agent on a deadly mission. Sent to the Scottish Highlands to spy on the mysterious Dreagan Industries, she discovers too late that she’s been set up—as human bait. She is an irresistible lure for a man who has not seen or touched a woman for centuries. He is a man with a destiny—and a desire—that could destroy them both…

It’s been twelve hundred years since Kellan has walked among humans—and there’s no denying the erotically charged attraction he feels for Denae. But as a Dragon King, he is sworn to protect his secrets. Yet the closer he gets to this smart, ravishing woman, the more her life is in danger. All it takes is one reckless kiss to unleash a flood of desire, the fury of dragons…and the fiercest enemy of all.

Donna Grant tends to be a hit or miss author for me so I was a little wary of reading another one of her books. However, I really enjoyed this one! There were dragons and magic and mystery!

I felt a little dropped into this world because it was a spinoff, but I got over it quickly because I was intrigued by these mysterious Dragon Kings. Kellan has a deep hatred for the humans who betrayed him several centuries ago, but one tiny, spitfire human woman woke him from his sleep. She showed him the good in humans and that his hatred was clouding his judgement. Kellan felt drawn to Denae unlike any female he had ever met. Kellan is an extremely loyal man who is true to his word. His sense of justice and brotherhood rivals any I have ever read. He is also passionate and driven to do right in the world.

Denae is one kickass female who knows how to take care of herself. She is not used to someone wanting to take care of her, and struggles to let people into her world. She was also betrayed by people who should have protected her so she finds a strong common ground with Kellan. She does not expect to see past the tough exterior that Kellan puts up, but she realizes there is way more to him than she thought.

I thought this book was well written and I really enjoyed the story. I will definitely keep reading this series!

Overall Rating: 4/5 Stars!
