The underworld of Chicago is far from forgiving. It’s a world where knowledge means power, power money, and money everything.

While I paid the ultimate price to have it all, it wasn’t my decision to give my life..

That doesn’t mean I ceased to exist, only to live.

Going where the job takes me and living in the shadows, with deadly accuracy I utilize the skills inherent to me, not knowing from where they came, not recalling what I’d lost.

And then I saw her.

Laurel Carlson.

I shouldn’t want her, desire her, or need her, yet with each sighting I know she is exactly what I have to have. Laurel has the ability to do what I thought was impossible. She sees what others don’t.

My gut tells me that it’s a deadly mistake to change my plans and open my world to her. My mind says she’ll be repulsed by my twisted existence.

None of that matters, because my body won’t take no for an answer. I’ve made dangerous mistakes before. This time, will the price be too high?

Having never read anything by Aleatha Romig before, I didn’t know what to expect when I started Twisted, the first book in the Tangled Web series. I knew from doing a little bit of research her books were a bit dark, and a whole lot of suspenseful so I was looking forward to see how this book played out. I haven’t read a lot of romantic suspense, so it’s a more “new to me” genre, and it’s always fun dipping your toes into something different.

Twisted is told in dual points of view, going back and forth between our two main characters, Kader and Laurel. Kader is dark and mysterious, and I was completely compelled to keep going with this story so that I could continue to learn more about him from the tiny hints he dropped. The man is an enigma, and Romig did a fantastic job of creating a really well rounded character without giving us much information about him! Laurel Caldwell is a researcher, working on a huge project for a drug that will help PTSD patients. When she’s approached by Kader, the book quickly takes us on a rollercoaster ride that just wouldn’t let go. Laurel is a great character who is incredibly intelligent, and the perfect match for someone as domineering as Kader.

This book is an absolute circus ride, and I could not put it down. So many things happened that I wasn’t expecting, and left me with my mouth hanging open a little. And every time I thought I had it figured out, or that things would go right for our main characters, Aleatha swooped in and quickly ruined my happily ever after.

Twisted ends in a doozy of a cliffhanger, and I am desperately awaiting book 2, Obsessed, to see what else Ms Romig has in store for us!
