I’m desperate and destitute when Lockwood Construction rolls into my small town with an offer too good to pass up: high wages to any able-bodied man willing to join their crew.
Say no more. I throw on baggy clothes, tuck my long hair under a baseball hat, and apply for a job. Unfortunately, my half-baked idea of disguising myself as a guy is flawed from the beginning. As Shakira says, these hips don’t lie.
Still, I like to think I might have pulled the whole thing off save for one thing:
I know my boss.
Last month, we met at a bar, and after a fiery first encounter, it seems we’re destined to be sworn enemies.
Ethan Stone is ruthless and arrogant, a man I never would have crossed had I known how much he likes to toy with his prey.
He should just fire me and be done with it. Instead, he decides to make me his personal slave. Oh right, I think they’re calling it personal “assistant” these days.
It’s torture, all of it—his bad attitude, his ruggedly chiseled face, his desire to grind me into dust.
Every one of our friction-filled battles burns hotter than the last.
A girl can only hold out for so long. Soon, I’m bound to go up in flames.
My objective? Survive the heat long enough to send home a paycheck. My real objective? Stop having X-rated fantasies about my coldhearted boss.
It’s no secret to any of you readers (unless you’re new here! Then hello!) that I adore RS Grey’s writing. Plus I follow her on instagram and she’s insanely adorable and posts the cutest little video of her daughter. So if you don’t follow her, make sure to check it out. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
Coldhearted Boss is Grey’s newest release and it’s adorable swoony, super sexy, and 100% perfect. Taylor is down on her luck, stuck in her small town with no opportunities and struggling to keep her head above water and make it through life. Her mom and younger sister depend on her to help keep the family together and the stress of the whole situation is really starting to work on her. So much so, that one night as she waits for a ride home, she makes a rash decision with a stranger, that she immediately regrets. Her only saving grace is that she will never have to see the handsome stranger again. Aside from her embarrassment, she brushes the whole thing under the rug and moves on.
When Taylor’s cousin tells her a new construction company is looking to hire a bunch of laborers for a new hotel they’re building, Taylor jumps at the chance to make some decent money and hopefully get her and her family out of the sinking hole they’re currently in. What she doesn’t expect to find on the construction site, is the stranger from the bar, Ethan. And let me tell you, Ethan is not a happy camper, especially when it comes to seeing Taylor again!
These two are forced to work together and live together on site, and much hilarity ensues. Taylor and Ethan mix like oil and water, but they’re so perfect for each other it’s undeniable how strong their attraction is to each other. They feed off each other’s energy and a simple misunderstanding causes a whole mess of trouble!
For me, Coldhearted Boss moved a bit slower than some of Grey’s previous novels, but was still incredibly well written and plotted. I enjoyed the time I spent with these characters, and even though Ethan came across as a bit of a hard ass in the beginning, I loved seeing his personality soften as truths came out and he learned who Taylor really was as a person. Overall, this was a fun, enjoyable read that I would recommend to anyone.
