Molly Alcott didn’t expect to open her mailbox one summer morning and find an old letter stuffed between bills and a supermarket flyer. Penned in familiar handwriting, dated over fifteen years ago, the letter was written to Molly after her first date with the man she’ll never forget.
Week after week, new letters appear. Each marks an event in the history of their epic love affair. Each heals a wound. Each holds the confession of the man who still owns Molly’s heart.
The letters are full of promise, hope and love, but truth be told, Molly wishes she could unread them all.
Because the man who wrote these letters is not the one sending them.
I’ve been anxiously awaiting this book for what feels like forever. I loved the first book in this series, The Birthday List, and I’m a huge fan of Devney’s writing and storytelling. When I found out that she was going to do another novel about Molly and Finn, I was ecstatic.
Molly is the heroine of this story, and she is best friends with Poppy (who is the main character from The Birthday List). Poppy is Finn’s sister, and she is who is responsible for introducing Molly and Finn to each other. After meeting, the two fall in love, get married and have kids. It seems like the perfect life, until things fall apart. When Poppy’s husband is killed, it becomes the catalyst for the downfall of Molly and Finn’s marriage, and though Molly did something that is horrible, I can’t help but blame the collapse on both of them.
Several years later, both have moved on, even though they both still deeply love the other. When Molly begins to receive letters that Finn wrote years ago, but isn’t sending, things really start to get good!
I absolutely loved this story and these two characters. They were people I would want to be friends with. They crept into my heart, and made a home, and I loved every minute I spent with them. This book was emotional, and gut wrenching, but also made me think about the power of love, and things in my own marriage. Even after finishing this one, I haven’t stopped thinking of this characters, and the struggle they went through to find love again, and to heal their broken hearts.
