When I moved to River’s Edge, dating was the last thing on my mind.
I definitely didn’t expect to fall for him.
Popular. Star athlete. Cocky as hell.
You know the type.
But as time passed, I realized there was more lurking beneath that gorgeous exterior.
Secretive. Angry. A little bit broken.
The more I peeled back his layers, the deeper I fell.
Until I slammed headfirst into his sea of lies.
I blew my shot.
Pissed everything away—college, lacrosse, my future—only to end up right back where I started in River’s Edge.
I was content to revel in my misery, spending my days drowning in a bottomless pit of booze and girls.
Until I saw her.
Beautiful. Sarcastic. Perpetual bad attitude.
The pretty little distraction from the shit show that was my life.
But the sins of my past were closing in on me, and I learned the hard way that nothing gold can stay.
I love love love the way that Charleigh Rose tells her stories. I have fallen so in love with River’s Edge and all of the characters in this small town. I was so excited to finally get to read Jess and Allie’s story.
Jess and Allie both had less than ideal upbringings, which bonded them together in a unique way. Jess is angry at the world and trying to take his past into his own hands to protect those around him. He had given up on himself and what he could make of his life until Allie gave him something to fight for. Allie has been grieving the loss of her father for months and is trying to get her life back on track when she officially meets Jess.
Jess is the kind of guy with the biggest heart, but can come across as the biggest asshole due to his less than stellar choices. I was intrigued by Jess from the get go and I wanted to keep peeling back his layers to see what lay inside. Jess is one of the most selfless heroes that I have ever read. Once we finally gathered his full story, it was so worth it, and I fell even more in love with him.
Allie is a heroine who chases after her dreams and goes after what she wants in life because she has always had to depend on herself. I really enjoyed Allie’s character because she was very strong, but was not afraid to show her vulnerability.
I really loved the journey that Charleigh Rose took us on with these two. I also enjoyed getting to see some past characters in this book! I am anxious to see if another book is going to come out of this series!

When I first started reading romance again, New Adult is the genre that I tended to lean to the most. I read almost all the original NA OG authors, and just fell in love with the way these college age romances made me feel. There was something so refreshing about seeing characters find their way during such a turbulent part of their lives that made me extremely happy. Over the years, I haven’t read nearly as much New Adult, because I’ve had a hard time finding new authors that I love. But there are still some authors out there doing it right every single time, and Charleigh Rose is one of them. I adore, adore, adore her books and the characters that she writes.
I’ve been intrigued with Jesse since he was first introduced in Bad Intentions, and when I found out we were finally getting his story, I may have done a happy dance around my living room. I was so excited for him to get his happily ever after, and Charleigh DID NOT DISAPPOINT!
Jess Shepherd comes across as the typical college jock manwhore, and that’s exactly how Allie pegs him after their first few meetings. What she doesn’t expect to find, is that there is so much more to Jess than meets the eye. When you first meet Jesse he seems like a real cocky piece of work. Now, having known his back story a bit from Bad Intentions, I knew there was more to the man, but my heart still broke at Jess’s damaged soul. He’s such a broken characters, and I knew it would take someone phenomenal to help him to heal and find his true self. Thankfully Allie was just the person to do that.
Allie is fighting her own battles, and dealing with her own loses, but there is something about Jesse that just keeps drawing her back. In Jesse she sees some of her own brokenness reflected back, and its with this in mind, that the two begin to help heal each other. And it’s so swoony and beautiful and I was gushing the entire dang time I was reading!
This book is a fast read, that I couldn’t put down and I absolutely loved. If you haven’t read anything by Charleigh Rose you are definitely missing out on these great characters, and some amazingly beautiful storylines!

“Did you hear that?” I ask.
Moving in slowly, he cages me in, bracing his right arm on the wall above my head, his left hand by my hip. He brings his lips close to my ear and I fight the shiver that rolls through me. “It’s probably just your admirer,” he says, his voice hushed and husky. I swallow hard, looking over his shoulder as he nuzzles closer, his nose skimming my neck, then down to my collarbone. My pulse pounds in my ears as he moves back up, his mouth brushing across my cheek, stopping at my parted lips.
“Is this convincing?” He asks. He’s so close that I can feel his breath on my lips, and I realize that I want him to do it. I want him to kiss me.
I give a slight shake of my head in response.
“No?” He smirks, knowing exactly what he’s doing to me. His left hand leaves the wall to curl around my hip and he presses his chest to mine. “How about this?”
“Almost,” I whisper. I wet my lips and the tip of my tongue nearly grazes his bottom lip. His expression goes from playful to heated in an instant, then he’s closing the final distance.
It’s soft at first, just a brush of his lips against mine, but soon he’s cupping my face with both hands, tilting my head back as his tongue sweeps into my mouth, his movements confident and skilled. Unhurried and unyielding.
My hands find his shirt, pulling him closer as his tongue fucks my mouth. Because that’s exactly what this is. This isn’t kissing. Or maybe it is, and I’ve been kissing the wrong boys.
Jesse groans, fitting a firm thigh between my legs, and the need bubbling inside me threatens to boil over at the sensation. But all too soon, he pulls back, leaving me breathless.
“Was that convincing enough?”
