She’s on the run…

Tessa has finally found a safe haven in Sutter Lake, hiding in plain sight—just as long as no one asks too many questions.

He can’t escape…

Liam knows better than anyone how one wrong word, a single whisper can ruin a life. After seeing the darker side of fame, he’s desperate to retreat and find his voice again.

Two people from opposite worlds, brought together by a connection neither expected.

But the forces they’re both running from still lurk in the shadows…

And you never know when they might strike.

Emily’s Review

Catherine Cowles was a debut author that I discovered just last year, and when I read her first book, Further to Fall, I was absolutely blown away. She’s immensely talented, and her books are some of my absolute favorites. All her books are romances with elements of romantic suspense, which makes them an absolute thrill to read.

Beautifully Broken Life is book two in the Sutter Lake series, and it centers around Liam and Tessa. We first met Liam in Further to Fall, and I’ve been in love with him ever since. Liam is a famous musician, and he’s come to Sutter Lake to get away from the pressures of LA. Tessa is a shy, quiet girl who’s running from something terrifying. You would never think these two would work together, but they’re absolutely fantastic and one of my most favorite couples.

Liam is down on himself at the beginning of this book. He’s feeling guilty of events that happened in Beautifully Broken Pieces, and grappling with issues that he has with an obsessed fan. He goes to Sutter Lake to get away from his managers, his record label, and all the other outside pressures that come with being a rock star. He’s hoping that some time in the quiet will inspire him to start writing again. What he isn’t expecting to find is the girl that he will fight hell and high water to make his.

Tessa has been through a lot in her life, and Sutter Lake is one of the first places where she’s felt safe. With her job at The Tea Kettle, she can stay behind the scenes, creating delicious bake goods. She feels safe, but is ready to run at the drop of a hat. For her, there’s always something dangerous that might be right around the next corner. It isn’t until she lets Liam in that she realizes just how much she’s missing out on life, and how she wants to reclaim what’s been taken from her.

Beautifully Broken Life is the best thing that Catherine has every written and I’ve LOVED both of her previous books. Tessa is so beautifully broken, and I loved how Liam was able to help heal her wounds, and give her a place to call home. Everything about these two was absolutely perfection! If you haven’t read anything yet by Catherine Cowles, you absolutely need to now, and Beautifully Broken Life is a great place to start!

Charli’s Review

I can not tell you how much I love Catherine Cowles and the stories that she writes. Her debut, Further to Fall, released last fall and it was phenomenal. With every book that she writes, I am more and more impressed with her. She writes these gripping contemporary romance books that have a hint of romantic suspense to them, which just makes me love her books even more.

Beautifully Broken Life, book two in the Sutter Lake series, is the story of a broken girl escaping a life threatening situation and a equally broken man escaping the very real pressures of being a famous musician. They both seek solace in this charming small town in Oregon that allows both of them to heal among caring people, compelling nature, and the comfort of each other. Catherine did a fantastic job weaving this story that brings so many people hope for a future with someone who will embrace all of their brokenness.

Tessa has been dealt blow after blow her entire life. All she has ever wanted was a place to belong and to feel wanted. After landing in Sutter Lake, she begins to build her new life, but hates that she has to keep everyone at arms length in fear that her past will come back to hurt them. She is tired of hiding and jumping at every shadow in the dark. She had no idea how much this was weighing on her until she meets Liam. She finally finds safety in someone that she has never felt before, but will she risk it all to keep him?

I adored Tessa in this story! The growth that she experiences throughout the book is awe inspiring and beyond beautiful. She possesses so much strength and a shining light within her. She is gentle and sweet and I could not get enough of her. I wanted to hug her and fight with her because she was a person worth fighting for.

We first met Liam in Further to Fall and we got to know him more in Beautifully Broken Pieces. Liam has slowly started to lose himself in the box that his LA lifestyle and his record label keep forcing him into. He is dealing with a huge amount of guilt from events in book one of Sutter Lake as well as a tragic situation with an obsessed fan. He has temporarily lost the primal piece inside him that allows him to create music. A piece he doesn’t begin to find until he runs into Tessa. Tessa inspires him to take measures into his own hands with his music, and slowly coaxes the music inside his head to life with each encounter. However, Liam knows she has been hurt in the past. Will he be able to navigate the hidden landmines in order to break down her walls?

I have been waiting for Liam’s book since I first met him. He is one of my favorite heroes that I have ever read. He is kind, gentle, and so very protective of Tessa. He is willing to do everything to keep her safe and make her feel safe again. I love Liam’s sweet tooth and his ability to read a situation because both of these qualities were essential to getting over Tessa’s walls.

I could have read another ten books about these two because they are so special. I am very excited to see what Catherine writes next, and I am hoping to see these two again.
