It’s been one year since ex-Navy SEAL Ethan Kelly last saw his wife Rachel alive. Overwhelmed by grief and guilt over his failures as a husband, Ethan shuts himself off from everything and everyone.
His brothers have tried to bring Ethan into the KGI fold, tried to break through the barriers he’s built around himself, but Ethan refuses to respond… until he receives anonymous information claiming Rachel is alive.
To save her, Ethan will have to dodge bullets, cross a jungle, and risk falling captive to a deadly drug cartel that threatens his own demise. And even if he succeeds, he’ll have to force Rachel to recover memories she can’t and doesn’t want to relive—the minute by minute terror of her darkest hour—for their love, and their lives, may depend on it.
Review
Ethan and Rachel had been in love, until they weren’t. With her marriage crumbling around her, Rachel headed on a trip to South America where she is killed in a plane crash. On the first anniversary of her death, Ethan is devastated by the loss of his wife, and is grappling with feelings of guilt over everything that he had said before she had left. When Ethan receives a package that states that Rachel is still alive, he immediately goes to his brothers and the KGI to help him rescue her from her captors.
Having never read anything by Maya Banks, I didn’t know what to expect from The Darkest Hour, but I was pleasantly surprised. Romantic Suspense is also a bit of a new genre for me, and I’ve been dabbling with different series to find my footing. So far, the KGI series has been my absolute favorite, and I really enjoyed the time I spent with the Kelly family.
One thing that I was expecting to find in The Darkest Hour was all the emotions wrapped up in the story. The relationship between Ethan and Rachel was heart wrenching, and I was completely wrapped up in them as a couple. There is so much romance between these two characters, and I loved the balance of sweet moments in comparison to the moments that were completely filled with suspense.
I’m completely enamoured by this series, and I cannot wait to continue with the KGI series! I have Charli to thank for recommending these books to me, and I can’t help but recommend them to any lover of romantic suspense!
