He’s the quiet brooding guy who’s owned my heart since I was sixteen but has refused to claim it.

I’m the naïve woman who believes that someday our time will come.

I just didn’t realize that someday would include waking up in Vegas with a raging hangover and a ring on my finger.

If we believed in fate, maybe one of us would’ve trusted that something more powerful than ourselves interceded because our love is one of tangled vines. As twisted and frayed as they’ve become over the years, they’ve never broken.

An annulment seemed like the easy way out. We should’ve known it wouldn’t be fate that intervened, but our Italian Mamas. They can deliver Oscar-worthy performances when heaping on the guilt.

We thought it’d be easy to pretend to be a happily married couple in front of our families for three months and then say we gave it our best shot and go our separate ways.

But nothing is easy when it comes to Dominic Mancini and me. Nothing.

This was my first Piper book and it certainly won’t be my last. I kind of jumped right into the middle of this series, which is normally my pet peeve, but I made an exception with this one. I did not feel like I missed out on anything at all other than knowing who ends up with who in the first two books. It did make me want to backtrack because I need some more of these Mancini brothers!

Val and Dom have been dancing around each other for years. They were high school/college sweethearts, but stubbornness and bad timing kept them from each other for more than a decade. They find themselves in Las Vegas at the same time, and what started out as a simple drink turned into something life changing. Now, they just have to figure out how to not get all up in their feelings while faking their relationship for their strong, Italian families.

I kind of wanted to kick both Val and Dom in the shins quite a few times. Dom is a planner and a stubborn one at that. He wants to make something of himself before committing to the whole marriage and kids thing. However, this was what ultimately caused the wedge between him and Val. I really did love Dom and the way he loves Val. He takes whatever she can give him until finally he is ready to fight for what he wants. My heart broke for this man on more than one occasion, especially when Piper flashed back to their past encounters.

All Val has ever wanted is to love Dominic Mancini, but he is not always the easiest man to love. Their on-and-off again relationship tore at her heart, and then one mistake leaves her separated from him in a way she had not anticipated. Val puts the happiness of others before herself, before Dom finally takes matters into his own hands. She was a little flighty for me, but Dom had his own flaws that caused her to be that way so I got over it.

I loved the big, loud, Italian family aspect to this story because it just brings so much life to the book. There was always someone there to butt into someone else’e business and it left for some entertaining shenanigans. I need more of this family!
